What can I do to prevent drunk driving?

On Behalf of | Jul 20, 2019 | DUI Defense |

Drunk driving is a serious problem in California and across the entire United States. Nobody wants to be arrested for drunk driving, but even with the penalties becoming more and more severe it still occurs. The best way to prevent having to deal with the penalties of DWI is to not drive drunk in the first place. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, there are several ways to prevent yourself from having to manage the consequences of DWI.

The first way is to assign a member of your group to be the designated driver if you are planning to go out and consume alcoholic beverages. If all of your friends drink, the most fair way to manage designated driver responsibilities is to rotate the position each time that you go out. While having a member of your group stay sober may not seem like very much fun, it is a lot less fun to get arrested for drunk driving.

If everybody in the group would like to drink, a second option is to take a taxi or a rideshare home.  this will certainly add to the cost of the evening, but the cost of a taxi is nothing compared to the fines that the courts levy after a drunk driving conviction.

A third and final suggestion is to consume alcoholic beverages at somebody’s house and make sure that everybody’s keys are confiscated. This way, if overindulgence does occur, nobody is going to be getting behind the wheel of a car.

The best way to deal with DWI charges is to not have them in the first place.
